I came to the United States of America four years ago from the India and started living in the Long Island. I am always curious to learn about the New york city and I believe this is great opportunity of my life that the Molloy College offers the most excited Core New york experience class. I am very excited to learn and explore about the world famous city New york. I never went to the New york city alone so tomorrow is a big day for me, I am going to travel by myself for the first time from Long Island to Penn station to meet my amazing Professors and classmates. I love meeting new people and exploring new places and I am looking forward for greatest experience of my life :) .
2. Queens
where should I start ? Today I started my exciting day from the Hicksville railway station by getting LIRR to Penn station at 9:45 am.On my way to Penn station I was feeling very nervous because it was first journey of my life by myself. I never travelled alone by train in my life.I felt very different on my way to Penn station, I looked outside the window graffiti on buildings amazed me . It was nice sunny day. I reached at Penn station at 10:25 am. My first impression after seeing Penn station was OMG! yes that what exactly I said.I felt I am lost for a minute because I belong to small village in India. I never went to big cities in India alone. I came to New york after my marriage and I was always scared to go alone. After today, I am not scared anymore . I felt so good and confident. Penn station was amazing really very beautiful and huge.My face light up when I saw my classmates waiting for everyone to start our great day. The original Pennsylvania Station, was built in 1910 by Mckim, Mead, and White.(ENY,pg 30). The Pennsylvania Station is serving over 600,000 passengers every day and is the busiest train station in the United States.(ENY,pg 29). After exploring amazing Penn station we went to Flushing Meadows Corona Park it is huge park and Professor Mike told us that this park is used by mostly working class.I found a lot of garbage every where in the park. The park is not very well maintained which we can judge from looking at the park.We walked a lot in the park and reached at Unisphere. Unisphere is the huge and heavy iron earth design ball which is a symbol of all Universe . Than we went to Queens Museum which is so beautiful and full with amazing art. I was amazed after seeing the panorama New york city model and the water supply to new york project map just gorgeous.I am planning to take my family there they have a lot of amazing art an educational projects which is very great. After that, I went to Jackson heights which is like a little India.Jackson Heights is on Seventy-fourth Street between Roosevelt Avenue and 37th Avenue and the surrounding blocks are the heart of a South Asian neighborhood. Indians, Bangladeshis, and Pakistanis call this area home, and come here to shop and eat. It's the place for some of the highest quality Indian food in New York City; South Asian jewelry, clothes, and music; Bollywood films; and plain old people-watching. This is a great neighborhood for strolling and taking it all in. I went there many time with my family to buy gold. They have best 24 carat gold shops there but this time, I went there with my classmates and amazing professors to have lunch at Indian place. I was very happy because, I love Indian food. We all enjoyed food and company. Than I went back to train station and reached at Queens to see the amazing Museum of film and great Long Island city. On my way our professor showed the beautiful PS10 school.I was very happy to see film Museum and I took a lot of pictures. Than we headed towards Long Island city on my way I saw beautiful mirror buildings just amazing and than I reached at Long Island city which is very beautiful. At the end I was very tired of walking but gained tons of knowledge and looking forward for more.
3. Brooklyn I started my day with great joy because we are going to Coney Island today but I was little upset because my phone was not working so I was not able to click pictures. I never went to Coney Island before so this is my first time feeling very excited. I met all student and Professors of my class at Penn station and from there we all walked to 6th street from there we all took D train. The borough of Brooklyn also called kings county and Dutch people are the first who started living there first. When we reached there we start exploring Coney Island its beautiful and Nathan's famous hotdog shop started from there and every year on 4 th july they have hotdog competition which also shown in TV ( ENY. p 137). I saw alot of fun rides , but I am scared of heights so I didnot tried any. Coney Island is very nice place specially beach its crowded but its beautiful. From there we took F train to Jay street and start exploring the area and while walking we came across the buliding that built in early years in New york that time the design used to build buildings is Greek revival, very beautiful. After seeing the building we started walking towards the Transit Museum which was built in Brooklyn and it shows the birth of subways and why it build I was surprised to know the story behind building subways the beautiful tour guide told us that in 1800's lower Manhattan was overly populated because all the jobs are there. The factories and work are mostly in lower Manhattan so alot of people started living there because it was easier for them to come to work but the living situation was so bad. In 1888 New york city suffered from huge storm which left 50 inch snow and is the worst . The job of building the subways are most dangerous jobs because people have to stay under ground level without air for so long the most dangerous job people called "sandhog" they work under water. I enjoyed all the buses and trains and learn alot in the Transit Museum. After Transit Museum we walked to Brooklyn Heights, which is very beautiful. While walking I was looking at houses which were built very nicely and very different from Long Island houses. The houses looks like Mansion I believe they are very expensive and the area look very clean and very relaxing. While walking we came across the Plymouth church which has famous preacher name Henry Ward Beecher (ENY.p 150). I love the area and the neatness there. Than we start walking and we reached to the beautiful area called Dumbo which means Down under the Manhattan Bridge overpass (ENY. p 151). I love the area from there you can see the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan Bridge very gorgeous and the most lovable part is the Jane's Carousel very gorgeous. After that we went to have the delicious icecream. Our last stop was Brooklyn Bridge we start walking towards it I was very tired walking over the bridge felt good the breeze was so peaceful. I was looking at the Bridge and thinking how much hard work the workers put into the bridge I also read in an Article that while building the Brooklyn Bridge 20 to 600 people died which is sad but there hard work paid of and they will be always be known for there good work. I enjoyed alot and learn alot and looking forward to explore more.
4. The village
Today I am feeling so excited because we are going to explore the Chelsea and the village. I met all student and Professor at the Penn station from there we start walking towards the Chelsea village and on our way we noticed the beautiful Penn station building and the United state post office building very beautiful and big.The best view of Chelsea village is seen from above I find it very interesting that the Chelsea was used as a farm land in 19th century and than the rich people from Manhattan started living there (ENY. pg 105). Around 1980's there alot of hookers in the Chelsea village and than artist started buying the garages for art museums.I walked over high line it was so beautifully architect its amazing to me how they plant trees and flower above building which look like regular ground just amazing. While walking I saw alot of people taking pictures and enjoying the beautiful view of buildings and the Chelsea just gorgeous. It was really a hot day alot of people were enjoying icecreams and cool beverages and relaxing. The Chelesa is known for amazing galleries and I was fortunate to see few of them all the galleries are so beautiful I dont have much knowledge about arts but its look like they put alot of work in the art. I was looking while visiting the galleries how people apericiating the work and art. I was very lucky to listen to one of the person who came to see gallery that the picture which make no sence to me is actually giving us a message in beautiful way that " love is life" I believe its very beautiful I will never forget in my life and visit these galleries again with my family. Than we went to Chelsea historical district and the cushman row , the collection of seven red brick row houses were built in 1840 (ENY. pg 108) I believe is amazing we talked about ht design of the buildings. After seeing that we went to St. Peter's Church which is designed by Moore and the design was " Greek revival" which was used in early years in New york. I church was closed that time we are going to return without even seeing it inside but than respected Tony came and made us fortunate enough to see the church. My first impression was church was amazing and very beautifully decorated with art and we all know its old but they took care of the church so well that it look beautiful.I will be very thankful to respected Tony. After visiting the church we all are very hungry so we headed towards Chelsea market for lunch. It was very crowded with people on friday afternoon I was quite surprised. People are eating shopping and the places are packed but we are lucky to find a seat to sit and enjoy lunch. I ate turkey sandwich which was very good for lunch. We all enjoyed food very much. Than we went to the Washington park which is historical and has amazing architect done. The park had old elm tree which was huge and was crowded by people. The people were singing enjoying the water and I felt cool bereeze while walking from the green plants in the park. After that we went to our last spot the Merchants House Museum. I was very excited to see the Merchant house but I was little upset becuse its very hard to get all information about it from our respected guide becuse he spoke so softly. But I feel like I still have alot of questions that is it true the rich people live like that without bathroom and without air conditioning or fan, I am still very curious to know all this. In the end we went to have delicious ice cream and I enjoyed alot and got alot of information and looking forward to explore more.
